Michael Tungate, President
Tungate Professional Insurance Services is an independent insurance agency specializing in the medical professional liability insurance needs of physicians in Michigan. The company and its President, Michael “Mike” Tungate, is dedicated to providing customized advice and to meeting the specific insurance needs of each physician. He is committed to excellent service, working directly with physician clients and groups to ensure appropriate insurance coverage is provided.
He has worked closely with physicians and defense attorneys in conducting investigations, interviewing physicians and experts, and attending trials, mediations, and settlement conferences. Based upon extensive medical malpractice claims background, he has a keen understanding of the litigation process and is sensitive to the emotional impact of litigation on the physician and understands the importance of maintaining the physician’s professional reputation.
Mike has acquired twenty-three years of experience in medical malpractice claims with American Physician Assurance Corporation, one of the leading physician insurers in Michigan. He has worked with the best defense attorneys in Michigan and has successfully handled or supervised thousands of medical malpractice claims during his tenure.
Mike received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University, with a major in Finance. He holds several insurance designations including the prestigious Charter Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and is a Michigan licensed agent in Property and Casualty, as well as Excess and Surplus lines. In addition, he is a Michigan licensed insurance adjuster.
Mike began his career in insurance with Transamerica Insurance Company in 1979, working in bond sales and claims. In 1983, he was hired as a medical malpractice Claims Representative by Michigan Physicians, now American Physicians Assurance Corporation, a division of AP Capital. As a manager during his last sixteen years in claims, he held positions of Supervisor, Manager, and Regional Manager. Most recently, he was responsible for managing claims operations in Michigan, Florida, and New Mexico.
He is available for on-site individual review and discussion of your medical malpractice needs. He will assist with inquiries regarding your insurance policy and its provisions which include: definition of a claim, insuring agreement, policy exclusions, consent to settle, and policy conditions. He will evaluate your needs and will coordinate with underwriting to provide a meaningful analysis of your claims history, to obtain the most favorable insurance coverage and premium rate.
Scott Friend, Associate Agent
Scott has over 33 years experience in the medical field. He spent 32 years with the Wyeth Pharmaceutical Company, the last 16 years as a District Manager. He joined Tungate Insurance in July 2008. Scott wants to build on the strong business and personal relationships he has with many offices. His goal is to combine his office practice knowledge with the insurance needs of the practice to get the best coverage and insurance value for each physician. He looks forward to servicing physicians in a different, but important role. Scott is available for on-site individual review and discussion of your medical malpractice needs.
